Overview

Veeco is making the world a greener place through the advancement of our proprietary CVD chamber technology. We are enabling our customers to make brighter LEDs, faster power electronics, and higher efficiency solar cells used across a multitude of applications - from smartphones to electric vehicles. We are looking for a sharp individual that will join the team to continue our success and growth into new markets and opportunities. This highly visible role is primarily responsible for the design and development of our reactor and automation systems from concept / feasibility through production release.

We offer the benefits of a large company with the speed, focus and freedom of a startup, can you handle it?

Responsibilities

  • Develop new and innovative designs that solve valuable problems in the space of CVD (chemical vapor deposition) systems – specifically systems geared towards next generation microLED displays, lasers, LED lighting, and high-efficiency power electronics.
  • Support sustaining product lines given direct feedback from internal process scientists as well as customer direction.
  • Leverage your knowledge of semi-conductor or similar cutting edge industry to uncover new ways of designing some of our most complex process components.
  • Act as a cross functional team lead to pull together software, hardware, and controls on some projects, act as the hardware representative for others.
  • Identify requirements for new projects, present design reviews to the cross functional team throughout the product development cycle
  • Guide less experienced engineers and contractors – you know how to coach and delegate to multiply your strengths and elevate others.
  • Be a champion of concurrent product development to speed the product development cycle and improve our focus on DFx.

Qualifications

  • Know how to roll up your sleeves and get the job done right – practical experience with complex assemblies, cutting edge manufacturing, and design methods
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering required. MS is desired
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience within a semiconductor equipment or similar technology environment
  • Have an unrelenting drive for understanding the fundamental physics behind the most complicated ‘black magic’ parts of our system; refuse to take things at face value
  • Strong command of Solidworks and working within a PDM system is required
  • You will need a very strong command of fundamental mechanics, and an instinctive sense of good design
  • Real world ability to break down communication barriers and find creative solutions to challenging technical problems
  • Practical FEA Experience working with both stress and thermal models
  • Proven ability to balance inputs from various cross functions and make DFx tradeoffs to find optimal solution
  • Strong commitment to quality design
  • Ethics and cultural values consistent with Veeco’s standards for excellence
  • Must be able to travel 5-10% internationally

Veeco is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Applicants will be considered for employment without regard to race, sex, color, religion, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, or any other characteristics protected by applicable law.
